Kevin – Youth Offending team

As an active member of the Tower Hamlets LBGT Forum and part of the Youth Offending team, Kevin has a unique insight into diversity at Tower Hamlets.

“I’ve now been here just over a year working with young people with substance misuse problems. Being here at the Council has taught me to work with people with a whole range of backgrounds. There are teams and structures in place to help you work with different people – which is essential, considering how diverse our borough is. There’s also training on offer, job security and constant opportunities to progress. I’m anticipating a long-term career here and look forward to moving around the organisation.

As a member of the LBGT Forum, I work closely with the Equalities team and have been helping to raise our LBGT profile within Tower Hamlets. We offer advice to people joining us from this background and we hope to expand the Forum in the future. I’m very proud of the reputation Tower Hamlets has for welcoming diversity including LBGT. However, I think that on a day-to-day basis, we need to be more pro-active. It’s all about turning plans into positive action. But overall, I’m really pleased with what we’ve achieved so far.”
