LGBT
Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender
Support for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community is strong in our borough. As well as numerous groups and events, the Council actively promotes LGBT equality through a Staff Forum; policies to support our LGBT staff; high-level LGBT representatives and through an over-arching strategy that has exclusivity at its heart.
In additional to these, the Council supports the LGBT community through some of the following events and activities:-
- Delivered an extensive programme of events for LGBT History Month
- Delivered a programme of staff events for LGBT History Month including a film showing and a talk with Ben Summerskill, Chief Executive of Stonewall
- Delivered a faith and sexuality event to mark International Day Against Homophobia
- Supported a LGBT community cohesion event delivered by Positive East
- Supported a recent LGBT older people's event organised by Age Concern
- Children, Schools and Families Directorate delivered an LGBT Conference for schools
- Listing in Stonewall’s ’Starting Out Lesbian & Gay Recruitment Guide 2008-2009’
These efforts have won us recognition from Stonewall. We’re proud to say that we have risen to 7th place in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index of the top 100 gay and lesbian-friendly organisations. This makes us the highest ranked London authority and the second highest nationally.
